FAQs for First-Time World Workplace Attendees

How many people will attend this conference?

IFMA expects more than 5,000 conference attendees, exhibitors, spouses and guests to participate in all or part of the conference.

What should I wear while I’m there?

Business casual attire (not jeans or shorts) is appropriate for the educational sessions, the Welcome Reception and most other activities. Friday’s evening’s IFMA’s Awards of Excellence Reception and Banquet is a black-tie preferred event.

Tell me about all the educational sessions.

There will be 83 different educational presentations and round table discussions by more than 300 manufacturers from across the globe at IFMA’s World Workplace 2008. They will run concurrently, meaning that 11-12 may be going on at any one time. As a full or limited event registrant, you may attend as many as you are able. Always wear your name badge and try to get to the sessions early, both out of courtesy to the speaker and because many popular sessions fill up quickly and must be closed to late-comers due to safety restrictions.

How do I get credit for sessions I attend?

All education sessions offered at IFMA’s World Workplace Annual Conference and Convention are eligible for IACET Continuing Education Units (CEUs), AIA LU’s, IIDA CEUs, AFE CEUs and CFM Maintenance Points.

To receive credit for any of the CEUs listed above, you will need to:

  • Record the CEU security code that is read by the session moderator at the beginning of each educational session you attend. There is a session scorecard at the back of the conference directory that will allow you to keep track.
  • Visit the CEU manager kiosks in the registration area at end of each session. If you depart World Workplace 2008 without entering your session into the CEU kiosk, you will not receive credit for attending that session. IFMA will not know that you attended the session unless you enter your session codes into the kiosk! IFMA cannot make changes to your records after the close of World Workplace 2008.
  • You will receive credit for only ONE education session during each time frame, therefore once a session code is entered for a time slot that is the session that will be on your record.

Can my spouse/guest attend these sessions with me?

No, guest registrants may not attend the educational sessions. Those with a full guest registration may attend the keynote addresses, the Welcome Reception and IFMA’s Awards of Excellence Reception and Banquet. Note that limited guest registrants may not attend IFMA’s Awards of Excellence Reception and Banquet. Additional tickets may be purchased at the registration area.

What’s the Expo?

The Expo is the most diverse and comprehensive tradeshow for the built environment, featuring more than 300 companies. Considering the range of products, services and information offered here, it’s just not enough to refer to it as the exhibit hall.

You are encouraged to see what’s new at the Expo Grand Opening. Exhibiting companies will be showcasing new products, introducing new services and informing attendees of the latest in FM and workplace offerings.

What is the Green Zone?

One third of the expo floor is devoted to a “green pavilion,” which features environmentally friendly, energy-efficient products, green solutions and technologies.  You’ll even find a green patient room.

How do I get my badge and conference materials?

Official World Workplace 2008 badges must be worn at all conference events.  Pre-registered attendees received badges with registration confirmations. On-site registrants must pick up badges at the on-site registration desk. All badge holders must be picked up at the Badge Pick-up desk. You don’t want to lose your badge, for there will be a $10 fee to replace.

These are some questions we’ve received from new attendees about World Workplace 2008. Got any questions? Let us know! Past attendees- leave any tips or suggestions you’ve got!
